- In the summer of 1986 while my husband was in high school, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He had a testicle removed and had both chemotherapy and radiation. He has been cancer free since. I was been perfectly regular and illnesses free my whole life. I never even had stitches or broke a bone.
- As we were getting engaged in the spring of 2002, he was tested and we found out he did not produce any sperm.
- We spoke with my regular OB/Gyn in the fall of 2002 about our options for having a child, we decided on IUI w/Clomid and donor sperm.
- We were married in July 2003.
- We decided to wait until the spring of 2004 to start trying. We did 2 unsuccessful cycles of Clomid and IUI. I am not a patient person so instead of doing two more our doctor suggested a specialist.
- We had our first appointment at the end of August 2004. I had a Laparoscopy Hysteroscopy (spelling??) in October and all was well. I was a good candidate for Gonal-F and IUI.
- We became pregnant in December 2004 (3 egg follicles). First try great!!
- Martin Luther King weekend, fetus heartbeat too slow. No heartbeat 2 days later. I had a D&E the next day.
- March 2005 did another cycle did not work.
- June 2005 started another cycle, only one follicle this time. Stopped the cycle. Time to talk about IVF. Cost a problem, my parents offered to help (they had helped a bit in the past, with donor sperm it was over 3,500 a cycle).
- July another Hysteroscopy to make sure all is well before we do IVF. All is well.
- September 2005 tried IVF, only 3 egg foils with the maximum medicine. Told it probably would not work. Talked about the step of egg donors.
- October 2005 started the long donor process.
-February 2006 embryo transfer. It worked and we had 18 to embryos freeze.
- April 2006 sent back to my regular OB/Gyn, made it 12 weeks. We thought we were in the clear.
-June 16th, regular doctor's appointment, no heart beat. Had a D&E the next day after a debate to labor or not.
- Summer of 2006 back to the specialist, test every week and still had a pregnancy level, but getting lower. The specialist tells us the rest of my treatment is on him.
-August 2006 another hysteroscopy. Left over fetal material in my uterus but everything should be fine.
- September 2006, sonograms do not look great, did another hysteroscopy. Things look better. Started to look into both international and domestic adoptions. Spoke to people who did both.
- November 2006, now have cysts in the uterine lining but let’s give it a try because they might get worse. Possible problem with the embryos since had to defrost 10 of them to get 2 good ones.
